Pendennis Brass is a vibrant community ensemble with a proud history of musical excellence

Harry Weir hails from the market town of Helston in Cornwall. His journey in the realm of brass bands began later than some, initially putting his abilities as a pianist to use on percussion before later transitioning to the baritone with Porthleven Town Band during his late teens. This early experience shaped his appreciation for the vibrant world of brass bands, alongside playing for the Cornwall Youth Brass Band.

Seeking to refine his musical skills, Weir pursued studies in composition, conducting, and euphonium at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London. During his time there, he had the pleasure of playing the euphonium with Regent Brass, a double London & Southern Counties Regional Championship winning band.

Throughout his studies, Weir’s passion for contemporary music led him to establish a new music ensemble while honing his conducting skills with orchestras and brass bands. One of the highlights of his career was conducting the world premiere of Josh Kaye’s opera “Outlier” at the 2022 edition of the Tête-à-Tête festival.

Upon completing his studies, Weir felt drawn back to his roots in Cornwall. He soon joined St Keverne Band on euphonium and was later invited to take the helm as Musical Director for Pendennis Brass, a role he has embraced with gratitude and now leads the band with a commitment to fostering its musical growth and raising its profile within the Cornish music scene.
