Opera Spectacula

Cheryl Brendish
Cheryl, originally from Nottinghamshire, pursued her passion for singing from a young age, even giving up the idea of a horse in the garden shed for singing lessons! She trained with the late Pamela Cook, MBE, and joined her renowned choir Cantamus, travelling the world singing in competitions and concerts. Cheryl later studied at Trinity College of Music, London, and ventured to Australia to join the Victoria State Opera, performing in Cameron Macintosh’s ‘World Tour of Carmen’ in Australasia in 1990.

She has played leading roles in soprano and mezzo-soprano repertoire for a variety of opera companies across the UK as well as Duchy Opera and her own company, Intimate Opera Cornwall. Cheryl also starred in Paul Dayton’s opera ‘The Hanging Oak,’ written specifically for her, in 2009.

Cheryl excels as a concert artist, having performed with luminaries like Sir Simon Rattle and Alan Opie. Her repertoire includes the Verdi Requiem, Mozart Requiem, Handel Messiah, Bach Christmas Oratorio, and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle.

Based in Cornwall, Cheryl is a fixture in the South West’s recitals, concerts, and operatic productions. Cheryl performs each year in the Secret Gin Garden at The Great Estate Festival in Scorrier and in 2025 performed as a singer and conductor for the Pyramid Stage opening ceremony at Glastonbury.
